Former Bedford Police Canine Officer Mike Johnson Named Mitchell's New Police Chief

Last updated on Tuesday, August 8, 2017

(BEDFORD) - Bedford Police Officer Mike Johnson has been selected as the Bedford Police Department’s Officer of the month.

This recognition comes as Johnson has announced his retirement from the department after nearly 28 years of faithful and dedicated service to our community.

During his career Officer Johnson has been a part of some intense departmental transformations; particularly in his area of expertise as canine handler and trainer. He currently heads up the American Police Canine Association and has been a driving force in improving canine service in law enforcement throughout the United States.

Johnson's presence at the department will be missed. The department's loss, however, is going to be Mitchell's gain as he is going to continue to serve as their chief of police beginning August 21.

Congratulations, Officer Johnson. Thank you for your service.
