Bedford Man Arrested After Failing To Pay For Gas In Brownstown

(BROWNSTOWN) - A Bedford man was arrested after he failed to pay for his gas Tuesday at a Brownstown convenience store.

Police arrested 26-year-old Cody L. Jent on charges of theft and two counts of resisting law enforcement.

According to Jackson County police, Jent was at 2:15 p.m. police received a clerk at Energy Plus Station reported a man in a red Dodge Durango failed to pay for his fuel.

Police spotted the Durango on Commerce Street (US 50) as Jent drove away from the station.

Jent failed to stop, turning north off of U.S. 50 onto County Road 350 West and traveled about a quarter of a mile before stopping and ran from the vehicle.

Jent went into a wooded area. Other officers arrived on the scene to search for Jent.

In the meantime, police learned that Jent was wanted on a warrant in Lawrence County for battery causing serious bodily injury and that the license plate on the Durango had been reported stolen out of Florence, Kentucky.

Police dogs and an Indiana State Police helicopter was called to assist with the search, but the tree canopy was too thick to look for Jent.

He was finally located and arrested.
