(NORMAN) - A Bedford man was arrested on Wednesday after police say he kidnapped a woman and resisted law enforcement.

Police say 44-year-old Gregory Messick of Bedford is facing charges in both Jackson and Lawrence counties.

Lawrence County Police Department received a call at 4:51 a.m. on Wednesday from Messick saying he he was on State Road 58 East and he was on this way to "take out a threat." He told dispatchers that he would only talk to an FBI agent and that he didn't care about his life and would "take out any law enforcement officer that came to his home."

Linton Police contacted Lawrence County police saying Messick informed them that he had a woman in his vehicle and was holding her at gunpoint and was enroute to Linton to kill her parents and brother.

A short time later, at 5:05 a.m. the woman dialed 911 saying she was with Messick and was in danger. At 5:50 a.m. she notified police she had been kicked out of the vehicle and was on Back Creek Road and was hiding behind a parked car until police could arrive. Police checked the area and could not locate the male.

The woman told police she had been camping with Messick at the Hoosier Horse Camp, where Messick had been drinking alcohol and became agitated with her, pinning her to the ground and held a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her and her family. He told the woman to get into the car. She was able to call 911 before leaving.

At 6:37 a.m. Jackson County Police located Messick traveling eastbound in Norman. During the pursuit he ran off the road and was arrested

Messick is being held at Jackson County on charges of resisting law enforcement, operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content between 0.08 percent and 0.14 percent, possession of drug paraphernalia and kidnapping. Charges of kidnapping, criminal confinement and intimidation with a deadly weapon are pending in Lawrence County.
