(BEDFORD) - Two Bedford residents were arrested after fleeing in their vehicle after Bedford Police attempted to stop their vehicle for a traffic violation on Saturday afternoon.

Bedford police arrested 27-year-old Shawn Flick and 32-year-old Samantha Wright.

According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, the pursuit began after a Bedford police officer attempted to stop Flick's vehicle Saturday at 10th Street and Lincoln Avenue.

"The officer saw Mr. Flick driving and knew he had a suspended driver's license," Chief Parsley says. "When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, Mr. Flick sped off at a high-rate of speed."

The pursuit continued on several roads including Boyd Lane, U.S. 50 East and ended on Tunnelton Road near Brook Knoll.

One police vehicle rear-ended Flick's vehicle when he made a sudden stop on Boyd Lane with the pursuit continuing on U.S. 50 East.

According to Chief Parsley, when Flick slowed to turn onto Tunnelton Road Wright opened the passenger door and jumped from the moving vehicle.

"At that time one of the officers in the pursuit stopped to attend to Miss. Wright, while another officer continued after Mr. Flick," Chief Parsley added. "The officer directly behind Mr. Flick's vehicles swerved to miss striking the female and that is when Wright swerved and struck the police vehicle in an attempt to run the police vehicle off the roadway.

The pursuit ended with Flick stopping his vehicle near the entrance of Brook Knoll.

"Officers were able to apprehend Mr. Flick, who continued to be combative and had to be physically restrained, " Chief Parsley added.
