Traffic Pattern Change At Vinegar Hill And Tunnelton Roads

Last updated on Friday, July 14, 2017

(BEDFORD) - Due to the bridge being closed on Sandpit Road causing the heavy trash trucks to use Tunnelton Road, the commissioners and highway department are changing the 2-way stop at the Vinegar Hill Road/Tunnelton Road intersection to a 4-way stop until the the bridge and Sandpit Road is re-opened.

Beginning Monday, July 17th Sandpit Road from Mitchell Road to the railroad tracks will be closed to rehabilitate Bridge 133.

New signs are being put up to alert drivers of this change and warning them of trucks entering the roadway.

"We ask that everyone use extra caution on South I Street, Vinegar Hill Road and Tunnelton Road as all these roads will see a significant increase in traffic," says Lawrence County Highway Superintendent David Holmes.

Crews from CLR will be replacing the deck on the bridge that spans Leatherwood Creek. The company submitted the lowest bid at $262,000.

"It is anticipated to take about 60 days to complete this project but could be as long as 90 days," says Lawrence County Highway Superintendent David Holmes. "Every effort will be made to get this done as quickly as possible as we know it will pose as a burden to our county residents that live along Sandpit Road and to those that use the transfer station."
