(BEDFORD) - Parents with students returning to North Lawrence Community Schools will register students online this year.

"The software system is intended to provide parents with the ability to update student information on-line, and the program will eliminate the need for parents to complete paperwork for each child each year," says Superintendent Gary Conner. "Instead, parents or guardians will be able to use the on-line system to immediately make changes to student contact information. Parents or guardians will also be able to update emergency contacts, medical information and apply for free/reduced lunch. You will also be able to review several school policies by logging into the website."

By accessing the system, parents do not have to go to the school to fill out paperwork to make student information changes.

The process should only take approximately fifteen minutes.

"We want to provide a quick, friendly and easy avenue for parents to make changes to student information," Conner added. "Schools have two categories of operation. Schools deal with paper and people. We want to eliminate the stress of the paper side of the schools. We want to stress helping parents and students.."

The on-line registration system is for only returning students to NLCS. Returning students to NLCS should have received a letter in the mail the first week of July with the necessary steps to complete your child's registration for the 2017-2018 academic year.

"If you have already completed the on-line registration process for your returning student, great job. Thank you," Conner says. " If you have not completed online registration for your returning student, that is okay."

Parents who need access to a computer can go to their child's school August 1-3 to register. If a parent needs assistance, school officials will be at the schools to help parents with the on-line registration.

"We are excited about the start of a new school year," Conner says. "We are excited about working with our children. This is going to be a great year, because we have great kids. "

The new on-line system is intended to make it easier for parents and school personnel to update student information. Parents will be able to access their child's information at the touch of a key. A parent or a guardian will be able to use the on-line system to immediately make changes to contact information, emergency contacts, medical information, apply for free/reduced lunch, and review several school policies simply by logging into the website.

School offices will be open beginning Wednesday, July 26th. Parents are asked to update information by August 9th.

A new student who did not complete the previous school year at any NLCS school, or any incoming kindergarten student who did not complete kindergarten screening at the end of the previous school year will need to complete their pre-enrollment paperwork by visiting the NLCS website at www.nlcs.k12.in.us and clicking on the New Student Online Registration button.

After a parent completes the on-line portion for a new student enrollment, the parent will need to contact the school where the student is enrolling to make an appointment with the Registrar to complete the enrollment process and provide the necessary documentation for enrollment.

"If you have any questions about the on-line system, please ask," Conner says. "We want information to be easily accessible, and we also want to be transparent in our approach, daily. Our kids are our community's most valued resources. They truly are our community's treasures. We are committed to making sure that they are okay every moment of every day."

Conner also stressed that parents should feel free to contact your child's teacher or your child's administrator anytime that you have a question or concern this year.

"As we begin a new school year, I want our schools to develop ways to cultivate and expand parental involvement," Conner added. " Parents, you are very important, and I want us to harmoniously work together as we serve your children. School personnel will also be striving to cultivate and enhance your child's school climate, school culture and relationships. I want each of our respective learning communities within NLCS to be inviting and enjoyable places for our young people every day. I want our kids to look forward to coming to school. We also want our parents to feel appreciated and valued."
