Green Hill Cemetery Board Working On Solution To Care For Cemetery

Last updated on Tuesday, July 11, 2017

(BEDFORD) - Dan Bortner, a member of the Green Hill Cemetery Board, is requesting patience from the public.

"I wanted to let people know why the cemetery is not in it's usual pristine condition," Bortner says.

The cemetery is a not-for -profit entity and operated by a board. It is financed through the sale of burial plots, a perpetual care fund, rent from the existing home, and a stipend from the city in exchange for maintaining the old city section.

"With the low interest rates currently from the perpetual care fund we are experiencing cash flow issues and have lost our contracted grounds crew. Thus the cemetery is not in its usual state for this time of year," he added.

The board is working toward a solution with local entities to eradicate the issue.

"If you have loved ones buried there, please rest assured we are working hard to correct the issues," Bortner says.

Bortner says there are several things residents can do to help.
