(FRENCH LICK) - When it comes to being a leader in hospitality and tourism in the state of Indiana, French Lick Resort has set the bar high.
Therefore, it comes as no surprise when Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann and the Indiana Office of Tourism Development (IOTD) was selecting its 2017 Hoosier Hospitality Award recipients, they would select a French Lick Associate who exemplifies Hoosier Hospitality in every way.
French Lick Resort PGA golf professional, and Lifetime Member of the PGA, Jan Tellstrom, is the perfect recipient of this award.
Tellstrom exemplifies "Hoosier Hospitality" both on the job and in life with how he helps others. He was the first Head Golf Professional at the Pete Dye Course and shaped the overall guest experience and helped build the venue into the championship home it has become.
Nominations for the Hoosier Hospitality Award were submitted by community leaders and members of Indiana's travel, tourism and hospitality industry. Submissions are reviewed by an 8-member panel comprised of representatives from Purdue University, the Indiana State Fair, Holiday World & Splashin' Safari, Grow Indiana Media Ventures, the Indiana Restaurant and Lodging Association and state tourism leaders. Winners are recognized for outstanding accomplishments in economic and community development through tourism.
Tellstrom is one of the most widely known golf professionals across the Hoosier state and his has impacted so many golfers of all ages. He was the long-time operator of the Smock Golf Course in Indianapolis and has been a leader in the Indiana PGA Section for over 40-years.
Tellstrom was recognized as Indiana's PGA Golf Professional of the Year in 2007 for his dedication to the game and charitable endeavors throughout the community. He continues to have a major impact on junior golf having earned Indiana's Junior Golf Leader in 1992, 1995, and 1996. He has also earned the PGA Merchandiser of the Year award, and Indiana's Horton Smith award for his educational contributions to the game.
