(MITCHELL) - Look "hillbilly" or be a sleek racer at the 7th annual Mitchell 500 Hillbilly Race that's set for Saturday, August 5th.

Race participants are to build a cart that is not motorized and zoom down a 500-foot hill on Teke Burton Drive by the force of gravity.

Rules and Regulations are the same as last year and can be found on the Mitchell 500 Hillbilly Race Facebook page.

The age groups will remain 5-8 years old, 9-13 years old, 14-17 years old and 18 and older.

Registration takes place the morning of the race from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. There will be no late registrations allowed to participate and the fee for this race is one canned good that will go to Bertha's Mission.

The event, hosted by the Mitchell Lions Club, will maintain its mission to help children in need of clothes, food and school supplies. The club sponsors the "Lions Den" - a place in Mitchell schools where students can get the things they need.

All cash proceeds from vendors and road blocks will go to the Mitchell schools, allowing school personnel to buy clothes, utensils and whatever supplies are needed to assist children in need.

The event raised more than $1,000 last year between vendors and road blocks.

Vendors will also be at the event this year. The Mitchell Wesleyan Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and other local organizations will be selling food and drinks. Any vendor can register to participate for $10 up until the day of the event.
