(HELTONVILLE) - A Bedford Police officer rescued a woman Tuesday night after she passed out and her vehicle crashed into a pond on Hearth Road, west of Pleasant Run Road.

The accident was reported to the Lawrence County Police Department at 7:52 p.m.

According to a Lawrence County Police report, 67-year-old Linda Hillenburg of Bedford was traveling west on Hearth Road and told police she believed she passed out.

Hillenburg's 2005 Ford Escape went off the north side of the road, went through a fence and then continued through a field and into a shallow pond.

When Lawrence County Police and emergency crews arrived at the scene Hillenburg had the driver's door open and was talking to the property owner Morris Hillenburg and others at the scene.

Police say Linda could have walked out of the pond but chose to wait on rescue crews.

Bedford Police Officer Jesse Crane responded with an inflatable raft and rescued Linda from the pond.

He was assisted by the Bedford Fire Department extrication team.

Once on shore, Linda began complaining of chest pains, but refused medical attention at the scene. She was transported from the scene to a local hospital by a family member.

Stone City Collision Wrecker Service pulled the car from the pond.

Assisting at the scene was an IU Health Hospital ambulance crew, Shawswick and Pleasant Run Volunteer Fire Departments.
