Two People Arrested On Theft Charges After Stealing Items From Walmart

Last updated on Thursday, June 15, 2017

(BEDFORD) - Two people were arrested Tuesday morning after they were caught by lost prevention officers stealing items from Walmart.

According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, officers were called to the store at 10:38 a.m.

When police arrived they were told by the Lost Prevention Officer that he had attempted to stop a man and woman after he caught them stealing items.

The male, later identified as 18-year-old Jalyn Scales, shoved the officer, knocking him to the ground and then fled out the rear exit of the store. He then jumped over some guard rails and fled into a wooded area.

The female fled and got into a red Pontiac G6.

Officers searched both the wooded area while others looked for the Pontiac.

"The male was found down in the gully west of the store," Chief Parsley says. "He was throwing the stolen items that he had in his pockets into the weeds."

Officers handcuffed Scales, but he refused to cooperate with officers.

"He threw himself to the ground and refused to stand or walk and had to be forcibly brought up the hill," Chief Parsley added.

In the meantime, officers spotted the Pontiac in the area of John Williams Boulevard and stopped the vehicle on Brian Lane Way where they arrested 18-year-old Sadie MaGill.

MaGill is facing charges of conspiracy to commit theft.

Parsley says she was charged with that because she was handing Scales the items and he was then concealing them in his pockets.

Scales is facing charges of theft and resisting arrest by force.
