(JACKSON COUNTY) - One person is dead following a crash early this morning involving a semi-tractor trailer and an Indiana Department of Transportation vehicle.

The crash happened shortly after 12:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-65 near Seymour. Indiana State Police investigators say that the driver of the semi struck an unoccupied INDOT vehicle causing the semi to rollover.

The driver, later identified as James H. Foster, 65, Louisville, Ky., was pronounced dead at the scene.

Indiana State Police say Foster was traveling in the southbound lane of I-65 near mile marker 50 when the 2014 Freightliner crashed into an unoccupied INDOT dump truck parked in the right lane.

The INDOT truck was providing protection for crews who were working on repairs to the I-65 overpass for U.S. 50. The INDOT truck's lights were flashing and a flashing arrow board was also set up, state police say.

Foster's truck, which was hauling about 35,000 pounds of frozen food, overturned after the crash, and Foster suffered fatal injuries.

A four to five-hour closure of I-65 southbound near Seymour was necessary because the truck had to be off-loaded by hand.

Motorists were urged to seek an alternate route. Traffic was diverted from I-65 southbound onto Route 31 to U.S. 50 and then back onto I-65.
