(GREENE CO.) - A Solsberry man was arrested on attempted murder charges after he allegedly ran his father-in-law over with his pickup truck.
Bloomfield Police arrested 21-year-old Ryan Christopher Vandeventer on felony charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery and a misdemeanor charge of invasion of privacy. He is being held in the Greene County Jail without bond.
According to police, Vandeventer struck 45-year-old Glen Pursell of Bloomfield with his truck while Pursell was standing in his yard.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the incident began after Vandeventer began sending threatening messages to a woman who has a no contact order against him.
The no contact order stems after Vandeventer injured the woman during a May 22 incident.
Police say that on June 11 Vandeventer allegedly sent the woman a threatening text saying he would kill the woman.
On Monday, Vandeventer reportedly violated his no contact order and contacted the woman by calling her before arriving at the woman's family's home in Bloomfield.
Police say that during the phone conversation Vandeventer said he was on his way to hurt her family.
Just after 9 p.m. the woman and other family members were outside the home when they saw Vandeventer coming up the road.
The woman told police she heard Vandeventer's truck wind up and then pick up speed. He ran the stop sign, drove directly onto the property in the grass and struck her father with his truck throwing him into the air and ran over him. He then backed up running over Pursell again. Pursell was then dragged for about 8 feet as Vandeventer returned to the roadway.
Police say Pursell suffered severe lacerations and burns on both legs and both legs were disfigured from the knees down and was screaming in pain.
Emergency crews were able to stabilize Pursell and he was transported to IU Health in Bloomington and then transferred to Methodist Hospital for reconstructive surgery on both legs.
Police found Vandeventer's truck around 10:30 p.m. at his parent's home in Bloomfield. They told police Vandeventer had been home all night.
He was arrested without incident. Police gathered evidence from the home and impounded Vandeventer's truck.
Vandeventer told police he was tired of Pursell calling him names and just wanted him to stop.
