Small Business Owner, Orthodontist Launches Campaign For Congress In Ninth Congressional District

Last updated on Wednesday, June 28, 2017

(BEDFORD) - Tod Curtis, a small business owner, orthodontist, computer scientist, husband and proud father of two, Tuesday announced his campaign for Congress in Indiana’s Ninth Congressional District.

This is his first campaign for public office.

"Washington isn't working for regular people," said Curtis. "I am not a politician, but I am a leader who believes in standing up for Hoosier families. I want to build a strong middle class, provide world-class education opportunities for our kids, invest in our infrastructure and foster innovation that will spur job growth. Most importantly, I want to make sure that Indiana families, seniors, and those with pre-existing conditions can afford quality care. I'm determined and willing to ignore party politics and special interests and make the right decisions that are best for South Central Indiana, and our country."

A native of Bedford, Indiana, Curtis opened the first full-time orthodontic office in Lawrence County, Indiana in 1999. As a small business owner and healthcare provider, Curtis has successfully grown the practice from the ground up, serving thousands of patients and their families throughout the surrounding communities.

A lifelong learner, Curtis went back to the classroom and earned a Master's Degree in Computer Science from Indiana University, while continuing to run his orthodontic practice. Since earning his Computer Science degree, Curtis has worked with and advised several software companies as a developer, particularly in the fields of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision. His work in the technology sector has given Curtis a unique lens through which to understand America's changing 21st century economy.

Curtis attended Bedford North Lawrence High School and Indiana University, where he graduated with a degree in Biology before receiving his D.D.S. at the Indiana University School of Dentistry. Following that, he continued his specialty training at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, completing a Master's Degree in Orthodontics.

Residing in Bedford, Curtis and his family remain active members of their community. Curtis has served as a Deacon at Bedford's First Baptist Church, volunteered for many years as a board member of the Boys Club, and has put his background and love of science to good use as a mentor for the Diamond Blades FTC robotics team.

He is married to Cindy, his high school sweetheart and the love of his life. They live in Bedford with their two children, Austin and Ash.
