Roll Of Sheet Metal Comes Off Semi, Closing State Road 54

Last updated on Monday, June 5, 2017

(GREENE CO.) - A semi transporting more than 50,000 pounds of sheet metal caused State Road 54 to close for several hours on Thursday.

According to Greene County Sheriff's Department accident report, 28-year-old Errik Dummit of Kentucky was following two passenger vehicles when they slowed for one to make a turn.

Dummit told police that he believes that he wasn't going to be able to stop in time and when he applied the brakes. The trailer brakes locked up causing a roll of the sheet metal to come off the trailer landing on the highway creating a large hole in the roadway before going airborne, landing and creating another hole.

Police say no one was injured during the incident.

The road has since re-opened.

Indiana State Police, Indiana Department of Transportation, Switz City Fire Department and Ken's Westside Towing arrived to assist.
