(BEDFORD) - Jenny Dearwester of The Southern Indiana Development Commission, held a public meeting to apply for a Indiana Housing & Community Development Authority for funds to repair owner occupied houses in the unincorporated limits of the county at the Commissioners meeting Tuesday morning.
The grant for $350,000, if awarded, will provide rehabilitation on houses owned by low- and moderate-income individuals.
14 homeowners could be assisted. Dearwester says she received 28 applications during a two-day application process. The county is targeting disabled and elderly households plus those with children younger than 6.
To qualify the person must meet income guidelines, must be purchasing or own their home. Each homeowner would be allowed between $18,000 to $20,000 for improvements from new roofs, windows, making the home handicap accessible, bathroom remodels and other improvements.

The commissioners opened 5 bids to repair Bridge 133 located on Sand Pit Road Road near the County Complex. Those bids were taken under advisement.

The commissioner approved a request from Chad Shew to appoint Katie Messmann, a juvenile probation officer, to the Community Correction Advisory Board.

The commissioners approved a request for Circuit Court Judge Andrea McCord to end the county's contract with CIS and switch over to using Odyssey Case Management System. All courts will have to switch to Odyssey, following the recommendation of three review committees which oversaw a 10-month procurement process, the Indiana Supreme Court chose Tyler Technologies Inc. to provide its Odyssey Case Management System (Odyssey) to Indiana Courts and Clerks.

Major Gregg Taylor reported that there were 1161 inmates in the county jail on Tuesday morning, of those 35 were female, 18 Level 6 offenders and no Department of Correction holds.

Emergency Management Director Valerie Luchauer says she continues to work on a plan to help the county's animals in a disaster. She hopes to have the plan finished and present it to the commissioner in July.
The new Spillman Technologies, Inc. integrated computer aided dispatch system is up and running and training is in the final stages. Plans are for the Sheriff's Department to be up and running on the new system by the end of June.
