Last updated on Monday, June 5, 2017

(MONROE CO.) - Just after 4:30 Sunday afternoon, Indiana State Troopers responded to a crash that occurred just east of Ellettsville on State Road 46 near Arlington Road.

When Troopers arrived, they found that a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier, driven by 20-year-old Adriana Nikte De Paz of Seymour, had struck and killed a pedestrian.

After having just traveled through the Arlington Road intersection and continuing westbound on State Road 46, for an unknown reasons De Paz left the roadway on the north side of State Road 46, crossed the raised concrete curb and struck a male sidewalk pedestrian, later identified as 18-year-old Jonathan Sinders, of Bloomington.

De Paz complained of pain and was transported to IU Health Bloomington.

ISP Sgt. Doug Hutchinson, a Crash Reconstructionist, investigated the scene.

Additional ISP units assisting at the scene were Master Trooper John Yung (also a Crash Reconstructionist), Sgt. Eric Dunn, Trooper Gabe Bault and Trooper Richard Klun. The Monroe County Sheriff's Department, the Ellettsville Police Department, the Monroe County Coroner's Office, the Ellettsville Fire Department and the IU Heath Ambulance Service all provided valuable assistance at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
