(ORLEANS) - The Orleans Public Library will open Monday after completing a renovation project.

Renovations to the 102-year-old building include an addition to the first floor of office spaces, a circulation desk area and a children's reading room. Renovations in the basement feature new bathrooms, a kitchen, classrooms and meeting spaces.

An elevator, ground-level entrance and hand rails for stairs also have been installed to make the building compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The library built in 1915 had parts of the eastern brick wall knocked out for the extension separating the front desk from the main entrance. Wood trim was chosen to match the 100-year-old circulation desk and the original wood in the building. New carpet is being installed throughout the library, the ceiling in the front entrance was raised and new drywall was also put.

In addition to the physical additions, the library is seeing technological upgrades. New public-access computers have been installed, increasing the total to seven, and there is a new Wi-Fi hub on the main floor. The network will be extended to the basement if necessary.
