(LINTON) - A Linton man is facing charges after his alleged involvement in the “Brown Squad.”
According to Linton Police Sgt. Logan Hobbs, the Brown Squad - is a criminal organization that includes adult and juvenile members that engage in various criminal activities
Police arrested 18-year-old Devin Tatlock on charges of robbery resulting in serious bodily injury, a Level 2 felony and robbery, a Level 3 felony. He is currently being held in the Greene County Jail after being accused of beating, stabbing a man and then stealing the man's puppy.
Tatlock was arrested after police received a tip from a confidential informant about the Brown Squad.
The male victim told police that four people approached him while he was outdoors in the area of Glenburn Road and West End Avenue. The victim had been arguing with his wife before the others approached him.
The victim had his puppy with him and the individuals demanded they give him the dog. The man refused and then picked up a rock and threatened to hit one of them if they came any closer. That is one of the gang allegedly pulled a switchblade type knife and threatened to stab the victim. The victim then fled to a nearby home to ask for help but was struck in the head before he got to the home.
The victim was repeatedly beaten by the four individuals and when they had stopped hitting him, the victim realized he had been stabbed. He was then kicked in the head and lost consciousness.
Tatlock and the others then allegedly took the man's puppy.
Police then spoke to individuals identified by the informant.
One told police they didn't confront the victim until they heard him threaten to hurt the puppy.
The second who owned the switchblade, told police at first he was not involved but then said he did pull out his knife and threaten the victim.
Police then went to Tatlock's home who told police he was in a physical confrontation with the victim because they believed he was going to hurt the puppy.
Tatlock told police he didn't see the victim get stabbed. He also claims he did not strike the victim because the other three were doing it and he couldn't get close enough to make contact. Tatlock did attempt to kick the victim but didn't make contact.
Tatlock reportedly stated another individual was responsible for taking the dog, but police found the dog in Tatlock's house.
The dog was returned to the victim.
The other individuals who spoke to police denied being in the Brown Squad.
Police say the case remains under investigation and other charges could be filed.
