(BEDFORD) - Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department’s new Spillman Technologies, Inc. integrated computer aided dispatch system (CAD) software is up and running.
The system was put in place after the state demanded the county have a central dispatch center.
Sheriff Mike Branham says the cost of the new system is $381,998. 911 funds will pay $267,768 with the sheriff's department using funds from unappropriated misdemeanor and public safety funds to pay the remaining $114,230.
The high-tech system will allow officers to have in-car computers to access information quickly without having to go through a dispatcher. Sheriff Branham says the system has other features; as soon as officers receive a call the system will provide a call history of locations officers responded to, provides detailed directions and maps, checks for warrants and officers safety issues and other valuable information.
The CAD software will also increase the dispatcher's capabilities to dispatch faster and incorporate new dispatch protocols into the system.
