Kentucky Man Dies From Injuries Suffered In Accident On State Road 37

(OOLITIC) - A Lilly, Kentucky man died from injuries he suffered in an accident at State Road 37 and Main Street in Oolitic on Wednesday afternoon.

According to a Lawrence County Police report, 68-year-old Gary Brewer suffered internal injuries and was flown by medical helicopter to the University of Louisville hospital where he passed away Wednesday afternoon.

The accident happened at 12:08 p.m. at the intersection of Main Street and State Road 37 in Oolitic.

According to police, Brewer was traveling west on Main Street and had stopped at the light at the intersection. The light turned green and Brewer continued across the highway when his 2001 Kia Spehia was struck.

Police say a 1992 General Motors pickup driven by 52-year-old Robin Tindal was traveling north on State Road 37 and failed to stop for the red light striking Brewer's car in the driver's side door.

Witnesses and Tindall told police she was answering her phone and didn't see Brewer's car cross in front of her.

Tindall attempted to avoid the accident by slamming on her brakes, but couldn't get stopped in time. Her pickup left more than 18 feet of skid marks on the highway.

Brewer suffered internal injuries. Tindall, of of 9303 State Rd. 37, was not injured during the incident.

Police were notified by hospital staff at 4:07 p.m. that Brewer had died from his injuries.

Assisting at the scene were two IU Health Hospital ambulances, Bedford Police Department, Bedford Fire Department extrication unit and Oolitic Volunteer Fire Department.
