(UNDATED) - The Indiana University Board of Trustees unanimously approved a 1.4 percent tuition increases at the Bloomington and Indianapolis campuses for each of the next two years.

The decision was made at a special meeting after the board's tuition forum Wednesday afternoon at Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis.

The increase is at the maximum end of a nonbinding recommendation from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education.

The board exceeded that recommendation by unanimously approving 1.9 percent increases for its regional campuses; IU East, IU Kokomo, IU Northwest, IU South Bend and IU Southeast.

IU's 1.4 percent increase for the Bloomington and Indianapolis campuses will put the annual Indiana resident total for tuition and mandatory fees at $10,533.02 for the 2017-18 academic year and $10,680.48 for the 2018-19 year. The rate was $10,387.56 for this academic year.

Undergraduate tuition and mandatory fees will increase by about 1.75 percent for non-Indiana residents for each of the next two years.

What students actually pay will vary, depending on fees associated with their specific program.
