Hoosier Hills Food Bank To Distribute Food And Enrolling Seniors In Monthly Food Program

(BEDFORD) - The Hoosier Hills Food Bank will distribute food in Lawrence County today from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Sherwood Oaks Christian Church, at 508 Fellowship Drive, and Thursday from 1:30 p.m.- 3:30 p.m. at First Church of God in Mitchell, at the corner of 12th and Oak streets.

Throughout the month of June, food bank officials hope to enroll more seniors in its monthly box of food program.

According to a press release, the 40-pound box contains two boxes of cereal, two bags of pasta, two bottles of juice, two cartons of shelf-stable milk, canned fruits and vegetables, a protein item such as beans or peanut butter, a can of beef stew and a two-pound block of cheese.

The food bank is now enrolling seniors in Lawrence, Monroe, Orange, Crawford, Martin and Brown counties.

Once a senior is enrolled in the program, they are guaranteed to receive a box every month.

To qualify, you must be 60 years of age or older, and earn a total household income of 130 percent or less of the Federal Income Poverty Level. For a one-person household, that $1,307 a month or $15,678 a year; for a two-person household it is $1,760 a month or $21,112 a year.

Before applicants can pick up a box, food bank staff will need to verify address your with a photo identification.
