Faerie Gathering Saturday At Paynetown SRA

(PAYNETOWN) - If you enjoy both crafts and faerie tales, you won’t want to miss the Faerie Gathering at Paynetown State Recreation Area.

Craft activities are scheduled throughout the afternoon and evening.

Participants can make faerie tale creatures (glittering dragonfly, sullen snail, pinecone faerie) and create fun accessories to place in a faerie garden (faerie baby bassinet, miniature wind chimes).

All of the activities are included for free with property admission, except for the Faerie Door Workshop which has a $5 fee and is limited to 15 participants.

Faerie Tale Creature: Glittering Dragonfly from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Location: Activity Center Shelter

Faerie tale dragonflies aren't that much different than the real dragonflies that live at Monroe Lake - many of them also show off beautiful, iridescent, glittering wings! DROP BY to craft a glittering dragonfly, suitable for flitting through a faerie garden, and see how your dragonfly compares to the real ones flying about our lake shoreline. Craft takes about 15 minutes to complete.

Faerie Garden Feature: Baby Bassinet from 1 to 5 p.m.

Location: Activity Center

Spring and early summer is a popular time for baby animals to be born. In sync with the seasons, faeries tend to grow their families during this time too. Help out the faerie family in your home garden prepare for their newest addition - DROP BY to create a tiny faerie baby bassinet out of an acorn. Craft takes about 10 minutes to complete.

Faerie Tale Creature: Sullen Snail at 2:15 p.m.

Location: Activity Center Amphitheater

Gather round to listen to a little-known faerie tale by Hans Christian Anderson, the Snail and the Rosebush. After the story, you'll make your own snail and miniature rosebush (perfect for adding to a faerie garden!). 30 minutes

Faerie Garden Feature: Miniature Wind Chimes from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

Location: Activity Center Shelter

DROP BY to build a set of miniature wind chimes - perfect for adding the natural music of the wind to a faerie garden! This craft has tiny pieces and requires fine motor skills; young children will need an adult assistant. Craft takes about 25 minutes to complete.

Faerie Tale Creature: Pinecone Faerie from 6 to 7 p.m.

Location: Activity Center Shelter

Faeries come in so many amazing shapes, sizes, colors, and other variations! DROP BY this evening to design your own pinecone faerie. Craft takes 20 to 30 minutes to complete.

Faerie Door Workshop at 7:30 p.m.

Location: Activity Center Amphitheater

- Sign up between 1 and 5 p.m. inside the Activity Center.
- $5 per participant workshop fee.
- Limited to 15 participants.

Ready to welcome faeries to your home? Build a door to help them come and go! We'll provide all the supplies you need to craft a beautiful, unique faerie door (and we'll have lots of example doors to help inspire you). Younger children will need an adult helper. 75 minutes
