Eagle Pointe Golf Resort Back Open For Business

Last updated on Thursday, June 1, 2017

(BLOOMINGTON) - Eagle Pointe Golf Resort reopened Wednesday afternoon after clearing up what its owners say was a misunderstanding between the business and the Indiana Department of Revenue.

Officials shut down Eagle Pointe on Tuesday morning, posting notices saying the business had violated a tax code.

Owner Doug Thomas told The Herald-Times the issue stemmed from his business, Pointe Properties LLC, and Eagle Pointe's former owner, TRML Eagle Pointe LLC, filing tax reports for the same business during the same time period, before its sale was finalized last year. Pointe Properties LLC purchased the business in December and began managing it before the sale was completed.

Thomas told the Herald-Times the length of time Eagle Pointe has been operated by its new management would not be long enough for the business to owe back taxes.

The Indiana Department of Revenue sent a letter to Eagle Pointe notifying the owners that the business would be closed if Pointe Properties could not provide requested tax documentation. Though someone at the resort's front desk signed a form indicating the business received the letter, Thomas says the notice was not brought to the management's attention until it was too late and they were shut down.

Thomas presented the requested documentation to Department of Revenue officials Tuesday afternoon. Wednesday afternoon law enforcement officials removed the signs and they re-opened for business.
