Child Killed After Being Hit By Vehicle In Driveway

Last updated on Monday, June 12, 2017

(SHOALS) - A 2-year-old boy died after he was hit by a vehicle in his own driveway on Wednesday.

According to a news release from the Martin County Sheriff's Department, officers were alerted to the accident at 5:48 p.m. after receiving a 911 call saying Jonathon Jones had been hit by a vehicle.

Police say that the boy's father, 35-year-old Joseph Jones, accidentally ran over his son with his truck when he arrived home on Chicken Farm Road.

After the accident Joseph took Jonathon into Shoals to meet medical help.

After arriving at Main Street and U.S. 50, Jonathon was taken to an area behind Shoals Town Hall in order to meet with Air Evac Lifeteam for an airlift.

At 6:27 p.m., the helicopter left toward the University of Louisville Hospital, but the trip was cut short due to Jonathon's deteriorating health. The helicopter landed at Indiana University Health Paoli Hospital instead.

Jonathon, who suffered severe head injuries, died at the hospital.

Police say no part of the investigation indicated foul play or negligence.
