(BEDFORD) - Horseback riding, archery, an obstacle course, gun and boat safety, mountain biking, outdoor games, snakes, a free lunch, and much more are slated for children at Murray Forest Park on Saturday, June 17 to celebrate Get Outdoors Day.

Several local organizations have teamed up to offer a fun day for southern Indiana families to experience a variety of outdoor activities. The event begins at 10 a.m. and concludes at 2 p.m. During that time, people can throw an atlatl just as Native Americans once used, play pioneer games, make a bracelet out of beads that change color with ultra violet light, build a birdhouse and learn about trees and shapes in nature.

Children can learn to shoot a bow and a BB gun; and learn new games to play outdoors. There will also be a detective game and a bounce house to play in and a photo station to dress up.

The first 350 children will receive a backpack and there are prizes for children who complete the stations. All children should be accompanied by an adult and shoes with a heel are recommended for riding the horses.

Bring your family and friends to enjoy a fun summer day and "Get Outdoors" at Murray Forest Park, just off SR 58 behind Stalker School in Bedford.

For more information call the Hoosier National Forest office at (812) 275-5987 or the Bedford Park Department at (812) 275-5692.
