Cannelburg Man In Jail After Breaking Into Loogootee Home, Injuring Man

(LOOGOOTEE) - A Cannelburg man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after he broke into a Loogootee home got into an altercation with a woman and then fled the scene.

At 12:40 p.m. Indiana State Police Senior Trooper Jarrod Lents and Loogootee Police Chief Kelly Rayhill were called to a home at 106 North Oak Street in Loogootee, when a female caller reported that a male intruder had been in the home.

When police arrived they found the male had fled the scene in a maroon van with faded paint.

Senior Troop Lents patrolled the area looking for the van and found the van and man in Chuckle's gas station lot.

Trooper Lents arrested 51-year-old Kenneth Bettag, of Cannelburg on felony charges of burglary, strangulation and residential entry. He was also charged with misdemeanor charges of criminal trespass and battery.

Officers learned that Bettage went to the home on Oak Street and walked into the home to speak to his ex-girlfriend. The woman told police that Bettage was irate and refused to leave after being asked to. Then walked up to the woman's current boyfriend and grabbed him by the throat and pulled him off a couch, striking him and tearing his shirt.

After hearing the woman had called police, Bettage fled the home.

Police were assisted by deputies from the Martin County Sheriff's Department.
