(BLOOMINGTON) - With dreams of becoming a U.S. Marine, Trevor Carpenter asked his doctor to put his chemotherapy port in his left shoulder with hopes to save his shooting shoulder.

Trevor is a 6th grader at Clear Creek Elementary School. He loves airsoft, football, and his family and friends.

He was recently diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia after his mother took him to see a doctor.

"Trevor started complaining of light headedness. And he would get really pale. And after every meal he would run straight for the bathroom," said Amber Carpenter, Trevor's mother.

After the lab results of the blood draw arrived, the doctor called Amber reporting Trevor's diagnosis and that they needed to head to Riley's Children's Hospital immediately.

"We went and pulled him out of school... he had surgery the following day."

According to Trevor's mom, the chemo Trevor was originally taking was not working completely due to the rarity of his cancer. He will be starting a new trial drug when his levels are good.

Trevor's spirits are high even after hearing his chemo wasn't working, "He is scared as any twelve-year-old would be when they hear their doctor tell them they have a rare form of leukemia. But his spirits are high. You would never know. If you met him, you would never know that he is struggling the way that he is," said Amber.

Jeremy Carpenter is a family friend to Amber and Trevor. He is also a part time fire fighter for the Perry-Clear Creek Fire Department and a full time firefighter at the Northern Monroe Territory Fire Department.

"You know a lot of times this stuff happens to the best...Trevor is an amazing kid that definitely doesn't deserve the hand that he's been dealt," said Jeremy.

Jeremy has planned a benefit called "Bowl with a Firefighter" for Trevor to help him and his family. On Sunday, June 18th head to Classic Lanes in Bloomington from 2:30-4:30 p.m. and bowl with a firefighter from the Perry-Clear Creek Fire Department and the Northern Monroe Territory Fire Department.

Entry will be $15 dollars per person and that includes 2 hours of bowling and shoes. All proceeds from the two hour event will go to Trevor and his family.
Jeremy said to come hang out and bowl with some Firefighters. There will be snacks from the snack bar and prizes to win. There will also be "Trevor's Troops" tee shirts for purchase.

Trevor and his family do plan to be at the event if Trevor is feeling well.

"I think it's great for Trevor to see that he has all these people behind him. And I think it does wonders for his moral and his spirit... It's been an amazing to see how strangers pull together," said Amber.

If you have any questions concerning Bowl with a Firefighter, please contact Jeremy Carpenter at (812) 272-8934. Jeremy welcomes any Firefighters from other stations that also want to come to the event.
