Bloomington Police Still Looking For Source Of Deadly Heroin And Spice

Last updated on Monday, June 26, 2017

(BLOOMINGTON) - One woman is dead and 11 others were sent to the hospital after overdosing on heroin and synthetic marijuana.

The incidents have happened in a 24 hour period beginning on Wednesday.

Police say the overdoses have been linked to a tan colored heroin and spice - a synthetic cannabinoid.

Investigators are working to identify the source of the drugs.

The overdoses occurred at the following locations, and times:

On Thursday night police arrested a 26-year-old Bloomington man on charges of dealing in synthetic marijuana and dealing in controlled substances, but say he has not been connected to the overdoses.

"Our investigators are working really hard to investigate the source of the Spice," says Bloomington Police Capt. Steve Kellams. "We have not connected him to any of the overdoses, that link is still under investigation."

Police say the overdose victims appear to have taken one or the other of the two drugs, not both at the same time.

The drugs that have been seized are being tested to see what police are dealing with, but those results may take some time.
