Last updated on Monday, June 19, 2017

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford woman died from injuries she suffered in an accident on Saturday on Standish Steel Road.

According to a Lawrence County Police report, 90-year-old Helen Cline of Bedford suffered internal head and facial injuries and passed away at the University of Louisville Hospital early Sunday morning.

Cline was a passenger in a 2010 Chevrolet Impala that crashed into the rear of a hay trailer on Standish Steel Road near Middle Leesville Road at Noon on Saturday.

According to police, a tractor pulling a wagon of hay had crashed into a utility pole on Saturday.

A Lawrence County officer was at the scene along with Jackson County REMC employees working that accident scene when the second accident occurred.

Police say the tractor, driven by Steven Turner, had pulled down the utility pole, breaking it, and could not be moved until the power company arrived.

The officer was standing on the north side of the hay trailer when he heard the car swerve. He looked up and saw the 2010 Chevrolet Impala driven by 92-year-old Allen Cline of Bedford slam into the trailer.

The officer, Turner and the REMC employees rushed to the car and attempted to assist those inside.

"We were finally able to get the driver's door open and free the driver," Lawrence County Police officer Steve Stafford wrote. "Extrication had to free the female passenger."

Officer Stafford was able to speak to the driver briefly who said the hay trailer pulled in front of him.

Police say the vehicle was approaching the first accident scene from the south and it was visible for 657 feet.

Allen Cline suffered bleeding to his elbow and lower arm and was taken by ambulance to IU Health Hospital Bloomington for treatment.

Helen Cline was flown by a StatFlight medical helicopter to U of L Hospital. She passed away at 2 a.m. on Sunday.

Assisting at the scene were both AMR and IU Health Hospital ambulance crews, StatFlight, Shawswick Volunteer Fire Department and Bedford Fire Department Extrication
