Last updated on Tuesday, June 6, 2017

(BEDFORD) - Bedford Police officers gathered today to say their goodbye to a loyal officer.

Today, Bedford Police Department K-9 North was laid to rest due to health ailments.

K-9 North was a twelve year old dual purpose Czechoslovakian Shepherd who began active duty with his handler and trainer Officer Michael Johnson on February 5, 2006.

Officer North served for 8.5 years and retired on July 20, 2014.

He affectionately watched over Officer Michael Johnson and fellow officers during every tour of duty.

:As a department, we are saddened by K-9 North's passing, but we have so much to celebrate from his hard work and dedication to our department and community. We want Officer Michael Johnson and his family to know our thoughts and prayers are with them; and we are so thankful they allowed us to give K-9 North one final send off," says Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley.
