(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested on drug charges after he ran from officers after a traffic stop early Saturday morning.

Bedford Police officers arrested 31-year-old Harold Leatherman of Bedford on two warrants for failure to appear, possession of marijuana, possession of meth, resisting arrest by vehicle and resisting arrest by force.

According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, an officer attempted to stop Leatherman at 22nd and G streets after he disregarded a stop sign. Leatherman sped away and lost control of his vehicle hit the railroad crossing sign at 22nd and M streets. He then fled from the vehicle into Greene Hill Cemetery.

Officers were able to apprehend Leatherman who then struggled with police officers.

"He had to be forcibly placed against the police vehicle and handcuffed," Chief Parsley added. "During a search of the vehicle officers found a baggie with a green-leafy substance that tested positive for marijuana and a prescription pill bottle that contained several baggies with one testing positive for meth."
