Baby Contest And Parade Lead Weekend Kick-Off At Washington County Fair

(WASHINGTON) - The Washington County Fair gets into full swing this weekend with the annual baby contest and the parade.

Rides are being set up at the fairgrounds and improvements are being made to make this one of the best fairs yet, according to Washington County Fair Board President Tony Nolan.

The baby contest will be Saturday at the Bradie M. Shrum Elementary School. Registration is at Noon with the contest getting underway at 1 p.m.

This year's theme reflects the theme of the fair - "The Wonderful World of Food and Family."

The entry fee is $6 per child. Admission is $4.

There are 14 categories, including:

The fair parade will be Sunday afternoon. Registration starts at Noon and the parade gets underway at 3 p.m.

Entry categories include Business, Organization (Not 4H), 4H Clubs, Vehicles, Fire Trucks, Tractors, Non-Motorized Vehicles, Musical Entry, both walking and riding, Advertising and Horses.

Because of the flooding, the Truck and Tractor pull has been postponed until Sept. 2.

Additionally, two grandstand events will be moving to the Salem Middle School -- the Queen contest and Teen Pageant on Monday and Tuesday nights.

Racing will take up the rest of the week at the grandstand, on a newly renovated track.

Wednesday night of the fair will feature racing beginning at 7 p.m., a mini-car derby on Thursday night, mud bogs on Friday and demo derby on Saturday night.

There will be lots of free entertainment at the top of the hill and themed days during the morning hours, including Senior Citizens Day on Tuesday, Kids' Day on Wednesday and the 4-H Jamboree of Fun on Friday.

Saturday, June 17
8:30 a.m. - Noon - Enter Open Class Non-Perishable Entries in Exhibit Hall, which include: Antiques, Art, Canning, Family Stitchery and Crafts, Photography, Scrapbooking and Woodworking.
9 a.m. - Noon - All mini-4-H Judging; Perishable Regular 4-H project check-in/open judging of Foods, Garden, Crops, Floriculture, Cake Decorating and Microwave).
1 p.m. -- Baby Contest at Bradie Shrum School (Registration at Noon) Theme: "The Wonderful World of Food & Family" Entry Fee: $6; Admission: $4
