(WESTGATE) - Executives of the Virginia-based Alion Science and Technology joined state and local officials at the WestGate at Crane Technology Park in Odon Friday to mark progress of the all-new $4.3 million Alion facility in the park.

Alion is a science and engineering technology solutions contractor for the U.S. Department of Defense and private customers across the globe. The company will join more than 35 defense industry tenants in the technology park serving the $2 billion NSWC-Crane technology center and other defense contracts, according to a news release. Alion is expected to occupy the 40,000-square-foot space after its completion in December of this year.
The Alion expansion is expected to generate new technology job creation in the region.

About 100 people took part in the ground breaking ceremony Friday afternoon. The occasion hosted by the WestGate Seven development company. Several officials commented about the $4.3 million expansion.

"Days like today are important not just locally, but to the people of Indiana - technology growth, particularly like what Alion is demonstrating here today, is a critical focus of our administration as we take our economy to the next level," Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch said in the release. "The future is bright. It is bright for Naval Surface Warfare Center-Crane Division. It is bright for Hoosiers living here in the region. And it is bright for the state of Indiana."

"As a long-time supporter of both the WestGate tech park and NSWC Crane, I offer congratulations and appreciation to Alion Science and Technology for their current expansion," says Congressman Larry Bucshon (Eighth district). "The WestGate serves a critical role for Indiana's defense industry and for the region."

"Our NSWC Crane team is most appreciative of the companies and technology experts who help us serve all branches of the U.S. military and the U.S. Homeland Security Department," says Capt. J.T. Elder, who serves as the commanding officer for the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division. "We congratulate the executives of Alion Science and Technology for their expansion in the region."

"This is an exciting time for us at Alion as we grow along with our neighbors in the local Crane community," says Bruce Samuelsen, Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Alion Science and Technology.

"Alion's expansion again demonstrates the value and critical contributions that the WestGate tech park makes both to Indiana technology growth and to America's defense industry," says Phil O'Haver, chairman of the Daviess County Economic Development Corporation. O'Haver, who spoke at the event, also serves on the WestGate Authority, a nine-person council that oversees the certified technology park.

Other executives and officials taking part in today's event included Jeff Quyle, CEO of Radius Indiana; Hunter Bisch, representing Congressman Bucshon; Dale Ankrom, WestGate Seven development company; Danielle Chrysler, executive director of the Indiana Department of Defense Development; and other state and local officials.

DEA, Inc served as architect for the new Alion facility. Rutherford Construction Services of Sheridan (Indiana) is providing construction support. The new 40,000 sq. ft. Alion facility is being constructed in the Daviess County section of the tri-county WestGate park (the WestGate park also has property located in Greene and Martin counties).
