Last updated on Thursday, June 1, 2017

(PAOLI) - A 3-year-old boy was killed Wednesday after he dashed into the road and was hit by a van in the parking lot of County Place Apartments.

According to a Paoli Police report, 3-year-old Bryce Hull, of 199 W. Wainwright Ave., suffered internal injuries and was flown from the scene for treatment, but passed away from those injuries.

At 5:17 p.m., 27-year-old Helena Sturgeon, of Paoli resident, was driving a 2012 Ford Econoline van through the parking lot, and had slowed to about two miles per hour to cross a speed bump near a trash bin.

After crossing the speed bump, she told police she heard yelling saying she had ran over someone and to back up. She told police she backed up and exited the van.

The child's mother told police her son was headed toward the parking lot and she has attempted to grab him, but was unable to because he pulled away from her. She told police at that time she didn't hear anyone driving through the parking lot.

Police spoke to other witnesses. One told police the toddler had been around the apartments before the accident without adult supervision, and that the mother was on the other side of the parking lot when the accident occurred.

Another told police they saw the boy in the parking lot, headed toward the trash bin when the van was crossing through the parking lot at a very slow speed. The witness told police the child ran into the path of the vehicle and told police the boy's mother was near her apartment directly across from the parking lot.

The investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed.
