Last updated on Monday, May 8, 2017

(BEDFORD) - Two people were arrested after Lawrence County Police found meth and items associated with the drug.

On Friday at approximately 4 p.m., LCPD Officer Caleb Merriman was patrolling the area near the intersection of State Road 37 North and Old State Road 37 when he spotted a gold Pontiac with the passenger not wearing their seat belt.

When the driver turned south onto State Road 37, he observed a traffic violation and stopped the vehicle.

"Officer Merriman ID'ed the driver as Connor Morgan and recognized the female passenger as Morgan Lambert from prior encounters with her while on duty, however she initially provided the officer with false identification," Sheriff Mike Branham wrote in an email. "The officer determined that there was an active arrest warrant for Morgan Lambert and she was arrested."

After further investigation and interviewing the driver and passenger, the officer searched specific areas of the vehicle.

"Officer Merriman located syringes, digital scales, and a cook spoon in Morgan Lambert's purse," Sheriff Branham added. He also found a corner bag containing a white crystal substance in the glove compartment, another baggie containing a white crystal substance in a cigarette pack, and more syringes in the floorboard.

The white crystal substance and the liquid in one of the syringes found in the floorboard both field tested positive for meth.

Police arrested Morgan. Merriman then inventoried the vehicle prior to it being impounded and found a backpack in the trunk of the vehicle containing precursor agents used for the manufacture of meth and a mobile meth lab.

Other items found included tubing, coffee filters, Coleman camp fuel, lithium batteries, acid, and cold packs.

Drug Task Force Detective and Drug Recognition Expert Chris Roberts was called to scene and confirmed the presence of a meth lab, and contacted the Indiana State Police Meth Suppression Team who responded and took control of the lab.

22-year-old Morgan, who told police he was homeless, is facing charges of manufacturing meth, dealing in meth, possession of precursors, possession of precursors with the intent to manufacture, possession of meth, unlawful possession of a syringe, and maintaining a common nuisance.

27-year-old Lambert was jailed on a warrant for motion to revoke probation, on site charges of possession of meth, visiting a common nuisance, false identity statement and unlawful possession a syringe.
