(DAVIESS CO.) - An early morning traffic stop resulted in two Washington men behind bars on numerous drug and alcohol charges.

At 3:17 a.m. Wednesday morning, Trooper Mitch Wier was patrolling County Road 200 East near National Highway when he observed the driver in front of him fail to use his turn signal when turning onto National Hwy.

Trooper Wier pulled over the vehicle and spoke with the driver, 29-year-old Preston Matteson.

In speaking with Matteson and his passenger, 26-year-old Tyler Bagley, Wier found that neither had an identification card with them. While checking their information, Wier learned that Bagley was wanted through Pike County on multiple charges.

Daviess County Deputy Luke Harmon and his K9 partner Focus assisted Wier by conducting an open air search around Matteson's car. The dog alerted officers there were narcotics in the vehicle.

Officers searched the car and found a glass smoking pipe with residue that field tested positive as meth. Officers later learned that the pipe belonged to Bagley.

Wier continued his investigation and found that Matteson was operating the vehicle under the influence of marijuana, meth, amphetamines, benzodiazepines, and buprenorphine. Wier also found a Lortab tablet in Matteson's pocket.

Matteson and Bagley were both placed into custody and transported to the Daviess County Security Center without incident.

Officers arrested Preston L. Matteson on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, endangering a person and OWI.

Tyler L. Bagley is facing charges of possession of meth, maintaining a common nuisance, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
