Ribbon Cutting Ceremony For Historic Milwaukee Depot May 18th

Last updated on Monday, May 8, 2017

(BEDFORD) - The City of Bedford will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the historic Milwaukee Deport at 14th and J streets on May 18th at 11 a.m.

The historic railroad building was moved thanks to three years of old unused project money from the Indiana Department of Transportation. The move and restoration cost $2.7 million.

Last May, the depot, which opened in 1900, is 130 feet long and weighs 350 tons, was lifted off its foundation and moved about 1,200 feet south from its former home to where it now sits at 14th and J streets.

The depot will serve as a tourism and trail information center and include a community room and a gallery room that will tell the story of Indiana limestone and its Lawrence County roots as well as reproductions of the Land of Limestone exhibit.
