Last updated on Thursday, May 18, 2017

(MITCHELL) - An Orleans man was arrested Monday after they stopped him for speeding and found meth inside of his vehicle.

Mitchell Police arrested 26-year-old Patrick McCoin after they stopped his vehicle at Gasoline Alley for driving 72 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone.

According to police McCoin was driving on a suspended driver's license.

While a Mitchell police officer was talking to McCoin, an Indiana State trooper spoke to his female passenger. There were also two small children in the vehicle aged 3 and 5.

The trooper asked the female if there were drugs in the vehicle and she replied, "possibly."

Police searched the vehicle and found half a gram of meth in a baggie, a smoking pipe with reside that tested positive for meth and other drug paraphernalia.

McCoin was arrested on charges of possession of meth and drug paraphernalia and cited for driving without a driver's license.

On Monday he appeared before Lawrence Superior Court I Judge Michael Robbins who entered a plea of not guilty on behalf of McCoin. He was then appointed a public defender. He will appear in court for a pretrial conference on June 28th.
