More Than 175 People Attend Open House To Show Off Shawswick VFD Station

Last updated on Wednesday, May 24, 2017

(BEDFORD) - More than 175 people attended the open house Saturday at the new Shawswick Volunteer Fire Department on Sunny Acres Drive.

Included in attendance were District 44 State Representative Eric Koch, State Representative for House District 65 Chris May and Shawswick Trustee Millard Jones.

According to Shawswick Township Trustee Millard Jones, the new station replaced the main fire station, which had outlived its use. The old building was built in 1974. The new fire station cost $420,000 to complete.

Jones stressed the new department is a plus for the community and will not raise taxes and will benefit the township with lower fire ratings in the future - the better the rating, the lower homeowners insurance rates are.

The new building has five bays for trucks, a meeting room, kitchen, a few offices, rest rooms and storage areas.
