Last updated on Friday, May 5, 2017

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was injured after he was struck by a vehicle while working on it Thursday morning.

According to a Lawrence County Police report, 50-year-old Earl Mullis was working on a 1998 Ford Explorer in a driveway at a home in the 3421 Coveyville Road.

Mullis was working on the engine compartment and was under the hood when the accident happened.

Police say a person, who is not listed on the police report, was inside the vehicle with their foot on the brake. Their foot slipped off the brake, causing the vehicle to move forward and strike Mullis.

Mullis suffered injuries to his lower stomach, leg and knee and bent his hand backwards.

Mullis was taken by an IU Health Hospital ambulance to IU Health Bloomington Hospital for treatment.

Assisting at the scene were first responders from Shawswick, Pleasant Run and Marshall Volunteer Fire Departments.
