Last updated on Monday, May 8, 2017

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested Thursday after police say he caused the death of Chester Andis of Springville.

Lawrence County Police arrested 54-year-old Kenneth Price of Bedford on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated resulting in death and operating a vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance. He is being held in the Lawrence County Security Center on a $50,000 surety or $505 cash bond.

The prosecution has filed a notice of intent to seek an enhanced penalty for OWI based upon Price having a prior
conviction.

On February 28, a woman called police at 8:29 p.m. reporting her boyfriend had hit a pedestrian at State Road 54 and Lilly Lane.

Price, who was driving a Ford Ranger, struck and injured Andis while he was retrieving his mail.

Andis suffered internal injuries and later died at IU Health Hospital.
