Man Jumps Into River From Milwaukee Trail Bridge

(WILLIAMS) - A man jumped into White River after police received a call of an intoxicated man on the Milwaukee Trail Tuesday afternoon.

According to Lawrence County police logs, officers were alerted about a white man in a hoodie acting suspicious and possibly intoxicated on the trail near Coxton Road.

The caller then asked the male if he was okay, he threw a bag and ran east toward the Bedford City limits.

County officers went to the Coxton Road trailhead, while Bedford Police went to the U Street entrance, looking for the male.

At 3:25 p.m., Bedford police were alerted to county police dispatchers the man had jumped in the river.

Police found him hanging on to a log in the river at 3:26 p.m.

Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley says officers were able to talk the man out of the river.

Officers transported him to the U Street entrance where an AMR ambulance crew treated him at the scene and transported him to IU Health Hospital Bloomington for treatment.

County police recovered the bag that the man threw.

Police are not releasing any other information at this time.
