Local Girl Scout Volunteers Receive National Recognition

Last updated on Tuesday, May 23, 2017

(BLOOMINGTON) - Local Girl Scout volunteers were recently recognized for their service to Girl Scouts of Central Indiana.

Monroe County North Service Unit #720, based in Bloomington/Ellettsville, received the President's Award, a national award, during a ceremony held at Girl Scouts of Central Indiana's Leadership and Learning Center in Indianapolis.

The Girl Scout President's Award recognizes the efforts demonstrated by an entire service unit to enhance Girl Scouting in its community during a membership year. Service Unit Manager Sheila Pain accepted the award on behalf of the service unit.

Girl Scouts of Central Indiana puts a high value on recognizing adults who make Girl Scouting possible. Without our volunteers' commitment to unleashing the G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader)™ in every girl, we would not be the largest girls' leadership organization in the world. That's why in April (National Volunteer Month) we celebrated the powerful and inspiring contributions volunteers make all year long.

We're Girl Scouts

We're 2.6 million strong--1.8 million girls and 800,000 adults who believe in the power of every G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader)™ to change the world. Our extraordinary journey began more than 100 years ago with the original G.I.R.L., Juliette Gordon "Daisy" Low. On March 12, 1912, in Savannah, Georgia, she organized the very first Girl Scout troop, and every year since, we've honored her vision and legacy, building girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. We're the preeminent leadership development organization for girls. And with programs from coast to coast and across the globe, Girl Scouts offers every girl a chance to practice a lifetime of leadership, adventure, and success.
