(LINTON) - A Linton man was arrested after he allegedly held a knife to a woman's throat.

Linton Police arrested 29-year-old Adam Ellis on charges of intimidation with a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony, strangulation, a Level 6 felony and domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor.

According to a probable cause, the incident happened on April 28th.

When Linton Police Detective Nicholas Yingling arrived on the scene he found Ellis standing in the doorway of the home and could hear a female crying.

The woman had suffered bruising and cut marks to her neck.

The woman told police she had been in Terre Haute and when she arrived home around 5:30 p.m. she found Ellis had been drinking. During an argument, Ellis allegedly began choking the woman.

The victim said she got away, but Ellis came after her and knocked her to the floor and began punching her in the mouth.

Ellis told the woman he wished she was dead and that he was going to kill her. That is when he grabbed a knife and put it to the woman's throat.

Ellis denied hurting the woman or putting a knife to her throat.

Ellis was arrested and on the way to the jail, Ellis told police he was going to hang himself once booked into the jail. So instead of taking Ellis to jail, Detective Yingling took him to the Greene County General Hospital to have Ellis evaluated by a doctor, where he was informed of his charges and stated he wanted to have a lawyer present. Ellis then allegedly stated he did not want a lawyer and admitted to physically hurting the victim.

Upon medical clearance from the hospital, Ellis was transported to the Greene County Jail without incident.
