(MITCHELL) - Lightning striking a roof of rental home at 412 South Sixth Street in Mitchell on Friday night sparked a fire.
Mitchell and Marion VFDs and an AMR ambulance crews responded to the blaze at 11:12 p.m.
According to Mitchell VFD Assistant Chief Fred Cassidy, a neighbor saw the fire and knocked on the door alerting the two residents inside.
Witnesses at the scene saw a flash of lightning, heard a loud bang and then saw smoke coming from the roof of the home.
Assistant Chief Fred Cassidy says the fire damaged an attached garage and back porch.
