Last updated on Friday, May 5, 2017

(SPEEDWAY) - Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch and Linda McMahon, administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), honored multiple Indiana businesses with the Economic Development and Growth Through Entrepreneurship (EDGE) Awards, recognizing each company for its work to help grow Indiana’s economy.

Those businesses include: AB BioTechnologies of Bloomington and Diamond K Sweets of Spencer.

"If you're looking for what's driving Indiana's robust economic growth, look to our state's small businesses and the Hoosiers behind them," said Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch. "Today there are half a million small business across Indiana, which are developing new ways to innovate and serve their communities. Today's EDGE Award winners exemplify the hard work and determination it takes to launch and grow a business, showcasing the best of the Hoosier entrepreneurial spirit."

The annual EDGE Awards recognize emerging small businesses, which have been in operation for less than one year, and established small businesses, which have been operating for at least one year. Each of the 20 recipients received assistance from the Indiana Small Business Development Center (ISBDC), which supports 10 regional offices across the state and provides entrepreneurs with expert guidance and resources on how to start and grow a business.

These awards are presented as part of the SBA's National Small Business Week, which highlights the important role small businesses play in the nation's economy. According to the SBA, nearly 500,000 small businesses operate across Indiana, and together those companies employ 1.2 million Hoosiers. Small businesses employ 45 percent of the state's private-sector workforce.
