(BLOOMINGTON) - Get Onboard Active Living (G.O.A.L.) was among 10 programs from across the nation named a “Program of Excellence” through the Hospital Charitable Services Awards, a national program sponsored by Jackson Healthcare.

G.O.A.L. is a free, family-focused community approach to encouraging healthy lifestyles for children and their families through nutrition, behavior, and physical activity education. It is offered in area schools at no cost to families. It is made possible through a partnership with: IU Health Bloomington Hospital, Riley Physicians, Bloomington Parks and Recreation, Monroe County YMCA, Monroe County Community School Corporation, Richland Bean-Blossom Community School Corporation, IU School of Public Health Departments of Applied Health Science and Kinesiology, IU School of Nursing and the IU School of Informatics and Computing.

Each "Program of Excellence" named was honored for exceptional work in setting new standards for giving back to their communities in sustainable ways. The local program was given $10,000 to be invested in the growth of the program.

"The Bloomington Hospital Foundation has always known how special a program G.O.A.L. is, so it's nice for them to receive this national recognition," said Jon Barada, President, Bloomington Hospital Foundation. "Thanks to the support of Old National Bank, Bloomington 100 Men Who Cook, and our generous donors, the Foundation has been able to help fund G.O.A.L. since its inception. This award will help ensure that G.O.A.L. will have a positive impact on even more families throughout south central Indiana."
