(BLOOMINGTON) - More than 250 Geographic Information System (GIS) professionals will be gathering today and Thursday in Bloomington for the 2017 Indiana GIS Conference.

The diverse program of technical workshops and sessions presented by GIS peers and industry leaders alike provide opportunities to learn new techniques and how others are using GIS to impact their communities. The annual conference is organized by the Indiana Geographic Information Council (IGIC). IGIC will be presenting their annual awards for Excellence in GIS at the conference. The recipient of the 2017 David C. Ford Special Achievement Award for exemplary service in support of GIS in Indiana will go to Rick Hill, Director of Technical Services at the Indiana Geological Survey.

City of Bloomington GIS Manager, Laura Haley, is co-chair of the conference planning committee and City of Bloomington GIS Specialist Russ Goodman is leading a pre-conference Bloomington bike tour.
